A GOTHIC MUSICAL GHOST STORY

The Midway Goes Still

Two souls. One ticket. An endless turn.

A boy and a girl enter the carousel together. Someone changes what they remember. The music keeps everything they lose.

THE INVITATION

The first thing he took was

At first there was only a fairground, bright as a handful of coins. A girl in a blue coat. A boy who saved the horse beside his. A promise made over the music.

Then the gate disappeared. The music kept playing. And someone began telling them who they were.

01 / THE ILLUSTRATED STORY

Five turns. One stolen story.

Read their story in five illustrated turns. Each page holds a memory the Puppeteer tried to change. Choose a song to hear that turn of the story.

THE FIRST TURN01 / 05

The first promise.

Before the lights went wrong, the fair smelled of burnt sugar and rain on warm boards. A girl in a blue coat held two pennies in her palm. A boy, trying very hard not to look frightened, pointed to the painted horse beside his. Its saddle was chipped, its neck circled with daisies.

“There,” he said. “We can ride together.”

She laughed, and for a moment the whole midway seemed to laugh with her. The organ opened like a bright door. Somewhere above the brass bells, a flute played five small notes. They promised to meet at the gate when the ride stopped.

But the gate passed once, then twice. On the third turn, the crowd stood perfectly still. A paper ticket lifted from the floor and brushed her shoe: ADMIT TWO. She looked at the boy. His smile had gone thin.

“Promise you won't get off without me.”

He reached across the space between their horses. She reached back. The music grew louder.
